Christopher Reid  – Born 20 April 1977

A few words to my stepson — from my heart to yours:

Christopher, as the bright yellow days of your youth fade into the hazy gray twilight of growing responsibilities — and you stand paralyzed by fear of the falling night, you will find that you need to look at all the colors of life.  You will discover that the warm, tan sands of time become golden again.

So look to the other colors of your life.  If your rainbow is fading — Make a new one.  When you remember the warmth of your loved-one’s lips … and one day look deep into your baby’s blue eyes … you will start making a new rainbow, and you will realize that the night of your life need never fall.

When you find that you have collected snow that covers the fiery, orange glow from the heart of your soul … let it be melted away with the warmth of love.  Let all the colors renew, like vivid colors — sharp and intense — like your childhood dreams.

The tree of life and love can be as warm and rich as the deep browns of Mother Earth — if you decide to make it so. Brighten life by enjoying the greens of both sides of your family tree.

Our prayer for you and Christina:

As you continue your journey together, be true to one another with love and devotion in your hearts … laughter and joy in your home.  Let there ever be gentle smiles and loving looks between you.

Hide not in hurtful silence, but speak out in open honesty — so that your hearts may hear to embrace one another with tenderness and care, nurturing one another with love.

May you live with quiet grace and gentle faith; may your home be blessed with wide-flung doors to receive family and friends with love and good cheer.

May God bless you both with rooms that burst with the laughter of children — in happy confusion, so that when your home no longer echoes with the sounds of childhood, your memories will be sweet and comforting.

Above all, at the end of your life's journey — may you both look to one another … and know that you have loved, cared, and grown in the soft light of God's love. Amen.

TI feel so blessed to have you for a son
I love your bright face
when we talk seriously about the world
I love your smile
when you laugh at the inconsistencies of life
I love your eyes
when you are showing emotion
I love your mind
when you are discovering new ideas
and creating dreams to follow
I want you to know
that I enjoy you so much and
I look forward to any time we can spend together
Not only are you my adored son
but you are also my friend
I am so proud of you Christopher!
