Proverbs
31:26-28 (New Living Translation)
26When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule when she gives instructions. 27She carefully watches all that goes on in her household and does not have to bear the consequences of laziness. 28Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her. Anna Jacoba Minny
This page is a tribute to my ‘Mamma.’ Her life was finely woven, richly textured and full of journeys which echoed the events and relationships that formed the tapestry of her life. Although she no longer walks this earth, Mamma is with me. I see her in the birds in my backyard… I hear her in the whisper of the leaves. Mamma is present in the smell of fresh laundry… her essence surrounds me when I take a cinnamon-topped dessert from the oven. I often hear mamma in my own laughter and see her in little things I do. I become so much more aware of carrying her inside of me, now that she is not here anymore. My mother is the place I came from... and the place I went to… when I needed prayer. I follow the map of my mother’s prayers in my daily life. How blessed am I to have been born to such a giving mother. I owe so much of who I am, to her… her strength and optimism guides me … her zest for life inspires me… her kindness and grace and wonderful sense of humor will always be an essential part of me. I can only pray to give like she gave. Friend to the one that needed a friend, mother to the motherless and ‘Ouma Annetjie’ (Grandma Annetjie) to any- and everyone who needed a grandma. Mamma touched all around her with a kindred grace. I am so proud to be her daughter. Nothing can take you away from me, Mamma — not time… not space…not even death — because I carry your love inside me. “And then one day... We’ll cross that river…” That is when I will see you again Mamma. I know the Lord is your Savior and that you are with Him now. He is my Savior and Redeemer too. What a glorious day it will be when we meet again. "The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness." -- Honore' de Balzac (1799-1850) "The mother's heart is the child's schoolroom." -- Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) "I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." -- Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
